BJAA's History project
Dedicated to preserving our past and looking to our future
Update: The committee is choosing the right pictures for the book. Once selection is complete, the book will be ready for print.
The Brighton Japanese American Association has a rich history. It is deep in traditions, pride and community service.
What started out as a group of Nisei women (2nd generation Japanese Americans) wanting to get together to socialize grew to be a well respected organization.
In the era of prejudice, what drove these people to want to be a part of a community? Why under burden and pressure at times, did they persevere here in Brighton, Colorado? These men and women were not only living in this community they were a big part of it's changes for the better.
The stories they tell are intriguing...

The history project; BJAAs legacy
What started out as a concern to preserve Emi Chikumas 50 years worth of scrapbooks turned into the creation of the history committee. The BJAA history committee had wonderful discussions on not only preserving all of her priceless pictures and news clippings but wondered if the younger generation new how our club began. With many meetings and brainstorming sessions, the idea of a BJAA history book was born. Our club has been working with Dan Blegan. Dan Blegan is the author of Bob Sakata American Farmer. Many copies have been sold and read. We hope that our book will be just as successful.
More stories, pictures and personal interviews are still needed. If you have an interest, please contact any BJAA cabinet member. Please join us in discovering our clubs hidden treasures.
